Centre Coordinator

    About the Role:

    Our client is seeking a Sport & Recreation Coordinator to assist with developing and implementing a holistic sport and recreation strategy for the Weipa community. It will include managing community sport and recreational infrastructure and facilities including the Weipa Aquatic Sports Precinct (WASP), sporting fields and walking and cycling networks. The position provided will be varied hours of employment which will be tailored to suit the availability and operational requirements.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To work consistently towards our vision of a vibrant, healthy and active Weipa community.

  • To lead consultation activities with community groups and stakeholders to continue to refine and develop sport and recreational strategic objectives.

  • To lead, guide and oversee the Aquatics Duty Manager, Fitness Duty Manager, Creche and recreation Attendants to ensure consistent positive customer experience and full compliance with all safety and legislative requirements.

  • Manage various Weipa Town Authority facilities including the Weipa Aquatic & Sports Precinct & grow participation in programs in accordance with operational plan and strategic community priorities.

  • To co-ordinate & prepare facilities for events and programs, including liaising with relevant stakeholders and coordinating all contractors and WTA members.

  • Review and develop policies and procedures and implement quality control measures.

  • Manage and monitor operational areas in accordance with relevant Health Department Regulations and Fitness Australia, Royal Life Saving Society Association (GSPO) and RTA requirements guidelines.

  • To manage the Health Safety & Environmental requirements, including all staff training, compliance with the current Occupational Health & Safety Act,.

  • Solve problems in line with procedures and guidelines, through application of experience and professional knowledge and exercising discretion, initiative and creativity.

About You:

  • Relevant Tertiary Education (degree, diploma etc)

  • Relevant sport and recreational qualifications, and/or substantial management coordination and delivery experience at a senior level

  • Experience in developing operational policy, systems and procedures in a leisure environment

  • Ability to effectively lead a team

  • High attention to details and problem-solving skills

  • Great work ethic and an ability to create and foster a healthy team dynamic

  • 2 years & relevant experience in a leadership role (Desirable)

  • Diploma of Sport and Recreation Management (Desirable)

  • Current Manual C Class Australian Licence

  • Full Working Rights in Australia
