About the role
The Health and Safety Advisor is accountable for assisting with developing, coordinating, maintaining and enhancing the Health, safety, and Emergency management systems across the Mine to ensure compliance with statutory requirements and internal processes and procedures. The role is providing advice, support, coaching and assistance to site personnel as well as assisting with coordinating the implementation of Whitehaven Coal Safety strategies.
Duties & Responsibilities
Maintaining awareness of relevant WHS legislation including Mines and Petroleum legislation, codes of practice and company policies.
Develop and maintain health and safety management systems in response to legislative and operational change, industry leading practice and incident corrective actions.
Review high potential safety and training incident investigations for adequacy of corrective actions, timeliness of close out and apply findings to identify opportunities to improve safety and training management systems.
Implement health and injury management systems in line with legislation and industry leading practice.
Assist where required to develop and maintain training materials and packages for operators and maintenance personnel in conjunction with The Training Superintendent
Skills & Experience
Tertiary qualifications in Work Health and Safety or related discipline (essential)
First Aid Certificate (essential)
Advanced Return to Work qualifications (essential)
Root cause incident investigation facilitation (essential)
Risk assessment facilitation (essential)
ICAM Lead Investigator (desirable)
WHS Systems Auditor (desirable)
Qualifications in health, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, nursing, occupational hygiene (Highly regarded)
Minimum 3 years WHS experience (essential)
WHS experience in the mining industry (essential)
Knowledge of WHS legislation and statutory requirements in NSW (essential)
Health and injury management in the coal mining industry (very highly regarded)
