Safety Officer

About the Role

Working as a Site Safety Officer this extensive role will see you working across a variety of both office based and site based tasks. To be successful in this position you will be someone who has experience facilitating Weekly Toolbox Meetings, arranging project inductions and provide relevant rail and general induction requirements for the project. Ensure new starters read, understand, and sign relevant Safe Work Method Statements and Safe Operating Procedures ensuring daily temperature checks are being done and COVID-19 apps are being used appropriately.

Key Requirements:

  • Plan, coordinate and manage safety aspects in relation to traffic management, risk management and hazardous materials

  • Identify hazards on site and take proactive action to minimise potential harm

  • Identification and management of risk

  • Appropriately assess subcontractor systems of work, monitor performance, and working collaboratively to improve safety outcomes

  • Manage plant - undertake risk assessments, VOC, induction, maintenance

  • Communicate and engage with larger audiences to attain broad commitment to achieve team goals

  • Address issues as they arise, with the aptitude and flexibility for taking on new challenges

  • As required mentor or train workplace personnel in regard to the safety aspects of the IMS

  • Conducts safety assessments and internal audits to assess safety performance and opportunities for improvement

  • Ensure accurate records of safety aspects are developed and maintained by the workplace

  • Report incidents, non-conformances and near misses and participate in incident investigations when required

  • Undertake Safety reporting as required (monthly reports, statistics etc.)

Key Skills and Experience

  • Experience in construction

  • Cert IV in Occupational Health and Safety

  • 2+ years in a similar position

  • Proven Safety Background

  • Trade Qualification - Preferred but not essential

  • Ability to work with various contractors and subcontractors across different disciplines.

  • Working knowledge of safety legislation, codes of practice and standards
