About the Company

Servicing over 40 clients across the nation, including prime Defence contractors such as UGL, BAE, Thales, MCDSPO and Naval Ship Management this company currently carry out works on various Mediterranean Shipping Company crafts, and commercial vessels nationally and internationally. They currently employ approximately 100 staff nationally and the company is growing rapidly resulting in the need for an additional Supervisor.

What you will be doing

As the Supervisor you will be required to work 9-10-hour days from Monday to Friday, with some weekend work. Based primarily out of a site in Garden Island, you will also need to travel to their office in St Peters on occasions. Supervising a team of 5-15 tradespeople, you will be involved primarily in maintenance works (fabrication & welding) on various sips/vessels.

Core responsibilities will include (but not limited to);

  • Oversee department's daily operation

  • Participate in assigned long-term preventative maintenance programs and projects

  • Perform major repair of hired mechanical systems?

  • Determine equipment required for the projects

  • Provide project estimation and quotation for potential works & tenders

  • Supervise installation and initial start-up of engineering equipment

  • Identify and debug for production problems as needed

  • Modify processes to enhance operation productivity

  • Assign, train, develop and supervise all workers?

  • Develop relations with external customers

What you will need

  • Previous experience in a similar role (minimum 3 years)

  • Australian Fabrication or Welding Trade qualification or equivalent

  • The ability to interpret fabrication and/or welding drawings

  • Competence with FCAW, MMAW and TIG and welding

  • Current drivers' licence with reliable transport

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Ability to manage teams and work well with small crews

  • The ability to complete ongoing physically demanding tasks

  • A strong commitment to health and safety
