About the role

WorkPac are currently seeking an appropriately experienced Water Engineer technically competent hydrologist to join our client Rio Tinto's Rail Engineering Flood Risk Project team. This exciting opportunity requires an enthusiastic and competent Water Professional to complete hydrology and hydraulic modelling of Rio Tinto's rail network and assist the Rail Flood Risk Project Senior Hydrologist to communicate event flood risk to the various Rail Network stakeholders.

The position will initially be offered for 12-18 month duration to suit the Project with further opportunities which may result. The role will suit a water engineering and/or surface waterhydrology professional who is seeking to develop mining industry, transport and and Pilbara experience in a more project focused and technically rewarding role within a corporate workspace. Opportunities for ad-hoc travel and site visits.

Duties & Responsibilities will include:

  • Prepare and run hydrology/hydraulic models over rail corridor sections using TUFLOW software

  • Carry out 2D analysis of event results and apply these to rail sections and culverts/bridges.

  • Communicate results within the Track & Civil team and assist to inform stakeholders of risk and mitigation options .

  • Assist the Senior Hydrologist and Specialist Track & Civil Engineers to develop risk mitigation options.

  • Opportunity to visit rail sections and complete onsite inspections (ad-hoc travel).

Skills &ExperienceRequired:

  • Minimum 4 years industry experience in water/drainage engineering or civil/mining hydrology

  • Demonstrable TUFLOW modelling experience applicable to transport/civil engineering studies.

  • 2D modelling results analysis and/or relevant programming experience (Matlab, Python etc)

  • GIS experience in preparing 1D hydrology and 2D hydraulic model input data and DEM/LiDAR processing for hydrologically sound model topography and 1D-2D interactions.

  • Strong attention to detail and able to competently QC/QA hydrology modelling
