Works Coordinator


To plan, program and deliver maintenance and capital works for the Shireâs roads, bridges, drainage, paths

and other infrastructure assets efficiently and effectively to the required standard through strong leadership

of the Works team.

Duties and responsibilities

Construction and Maintenance

⢠Prepare monthly and annual maintenance works programs, including identifying maintenance


⢠Prepare capital works program in consultation with Manager Engineering & Works.

⢠Coordinate resources, including materials, labour, contractors, and plant to deliver works programs.

⢠Coordinate and oversee responses to customer requests to ensure timely responses in line with the

Customer Service Charter.

⢠Liaise with technical officers regarding construction and maintenance projects, coordinating site

preparation, traffic management requirements, and monitoring of adherence to designs.

⢠Conduct prestart, toolbox meetings and practical completion meetings onsite with staff, contractors,

and technical officers.

⢠Ensure work is performed in compliance with designs and specifications.

⢠Manage the delivery of Works within the allocated budget, making recommendations for any

variances to the Manager Engineering & Works.

Health and Safety

⢠Manage the safety of works tasks for staff and contractors in consultation with the Work Health &

Safety (WHS) Advisor, Manager Engineering & Works and other stakeholders, including:

- ensure compliance to MRWA Traffic Management standards and WHS legislation

- conduct hazard identification, risk assessment and implement appropriate controls

- actively participate in accident/incident/near miss investigations and documentation in

consultation with WHS Advisor and ensure control measures are adequately implemented

and followed

- ensure compliance with Job Safety Analysisâ (JSAâs) and Safe Working Procedures (SWPâs)

and that staff are utilising safe systems of work effectively including take 5âs

- oversee staff to ensure the correct use of plant, equipment, and Personal Protective Clothing

& Equipment (PPCE)

- conduct Management Safety Observations and consult staff on best practice safety


- contribute to the continuous improvement of the Shireâs safety management systems.


⢠Provide effective leadership in consultation with Manager Engineering & Works, and Organisational

Development as appropriate, including:

- drive a positive, engaged team culture consistent with the Shireâs vision and values

- lead, coach and mentor Works team to perform at a high standard through clear

communication of expectations

- provide assistance with recruitment and appointment of employees

- performance manage, identify and address development goals for the Works team

- undertake general employee administration, including approval of leave applications and


- manage contractors, volunteers and others as required

- provide feedback regarding team performance and culture to Manager Engineering & Works.

Risk Management

⢠Actively promote team compliance with Risk Management requirements, including:

- providing employees and contractors with a safe work environment through the provision of

safe systems of work and ensuring compliance with Work Health & Safety policy and

procedures, hazard management and adequate training and supervision

- identifying and providing training and tools for employees to assess and minimize risk

- actively promoting, participating in, and providing duties that comply with the Shireâs injury

management and return to work processes.

General Duties

⢠Coordinate burials at Shire cemeteries in accordance with local laws and internal operating

procedures, in liaison with Rates Coordinator as required.

⢠Oversee the security, housekeeping and maintenance of the Depot facility in conjunction with other

stakeholders, including:
