Youth Caseworker

My client is a well-known not-for-profit that is leading the way in youth homelessness services. They have developed amazing support programs for young people between 16-25 years, including young parents, in the Greater Western Sydney area. The programs include living skills, brokerage, mentoring, and outreach support to young people at risk of or experiencing homelessness.

We are seeking a Youth Caseworker to join a small and fantastic team, based at Doonside and/or Castle Hill. In this role you will be providing trauma informed and client-centred case management to young people, with complex backgrounds. Assisting them in practical needs such as housing, living skills, education and training and wellbeing. You will also have the opportunity to facilitate and develop group work programs/initiatives that align with the purpose of the service. Building and maintaining professional relationships with various external stakeholders.

There is also the potential to develop your career, as the programs grow and expand. The hours are Monday to Friday, 9am â 5pm only, there is no on-call or weekend work. You will have the option to work from home, following a settling in period into the role.

This organisation recognizes that when working with complex young people who are often in distress, it can affect you emotionally and create stress in you. They provide all their employees with a free counselling service, you can access anytime, confidentially.

This is a permanent ongoing position, for 5 days per week, until the 30th of June 2023. Come the new financial year the role may be shortened to 4 days per week (permanent ongoing), depending on funding.

What you need to be successful:

  • Experience working with and supporting young people with complex backgrounds

  • Knowledge and experience working from a trauma informed approach

  • Knowledge in child and youth development, homelessness, safety planning & youth mental health

  • Experience in delivering casework support

  • An understanding of the culture and strengths-based practices

  • Demonstrated networking and advocacy skills with both internal and external stakeholders

  • Ideally you will have experience in delivering groups or training

  • Experience in managing crisis situations with a risk-adverse approach

Checks & Qualifications:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Psychology, Welfare or related areas

  • Current Working with Children Check

  • NSW Driverâs License

  • Evidence of COVID vaccinations and booster vaccinations

  • Access to comprehensive insured vehicle

  • First Aid/CPR (or the organisation will provide the training for you)
