Gardener

To perform horticulture maintenance activities, including but not limited to maintaining and enhancing parks, gardens and streets throughout the City in accordance with Councils Parks & Arboriculture Maintenance Guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
Safety
? Follow defined Work Health and Safety legislation, policies and procedures related to the work being undertaken in order to ensure own safety and that of others in the workplace.
? Actively identify, report and, where possible, fix workplace hazards.
? Responsible for and actively involved in identifying and managing risk in day to day activities and projects.
Operational
? Carry out horticultural duties consistent with Council?s Parks & Arboriculture Maintenance Guidelines.
? Demonstrate flexibility and a willingness to perform a variety of tasks as directed by the Workgroup Leader or Coordinator Horticulture.
? Assist the Field Leader and Workgroup Leader in daily operations.
? Work closely with members of the public and service providers in a friendly and polite manner.
? Contribute to a broader ?team? approach across Field Services operations by undertaking other duties in other work groups, relative to training, skills, competencies and level.
? Operate a variety of machinery and motorised tools as per Local Government Employees Award Classification Structure including driving duties.
? Positively contribute to our culture by living our values which guide decision making and delivery of outcomes for our community.
? To actively deliver an innovative customer experience that?s effortless, delivered with care and exceeds our customers? expectations.
? Follow defined information management practices, policies and procedures for all records created and received.

Selection Criteria
Skills
? Effective communication skills when dealing with customers, suppliers and work colleagues.
? Ability to follow direction and where required work without direct supervision.
? Demonstrate positive and constructive team skills including but not limited to time management.
? Literacy and numeracy skills to match record keeping responsibilities.
? Ability to operate various plant and equipment, general laboring and truck driving.
? Basic computing skills including knowledge of the Microsoft Office and Internet Explorer environments are required.
? Use of corporate technology including systems in electronic document management, land and property management, customer requests, asset management systems and intranet.
? Demonstrated understanding and enthusiasm for the direction of the City and the Organisation.
? Demonstrated behavior consistent with the organisational values.
Knowledge
? Understanding of the Work Health and Safety Act and its obligations on employees.
? Knowledge of the operation of any equipment and procedures relative to work carried out.
? Basic knowledge of Horticultural techniques and principles.
? Basic knowledge of works programming.
? Knowledge of responsibilities in creating and maintaining Child Safe environments.
Experience
? Experience in the safe operation of plant and equipment associated with Horticultural operations.
? Basic knowledge of general horticultural maintenance.
