About the Client
Our client is an unincorporated joint venture between which was inaugurated in February 2005 with the objective of developing a long-term iron ore export operation located in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. Our client controls a large mining tenement portfolio comprising 8,000 km focused in the west Pilbara.
About the Role
WorkPac are currently seeking an experienced Geology Superintendent to join our client for a permanent opportunity. Reporting to the Exploration Manager, this role is accountable for establishing and implementing best practice systems, procedures and operational support processes. Mentoring of field staff is a key component of the role. The successful candidate will be responsible for the supervision of field staff and exploration work programmes ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently and to industry standards, as well as the generation of targets and the development & implementation of exploration programmes to meet budgets and APIM objectives. Duties and Responsibilities
Ensure all exploration work is undertaken in a safe and efficient manner, in accordance with statutory requirements, best practice and API policies and procedures.
Ensure a culture of safety awareness and commitment is developed within the Exploration team.
Responsible for the supervision of field personnel and timely completion of programs.
Monitor the quality of exploration work being performed to ensure the technical integrity of results and that work quality meets specified standards.
Review technical and data collection procedures and upgrade data collectionmethodology, geological coding systems and exploration procedures.
Provide training ensuring industry standards are set as the minimum acceptable level in all facets of exploration activities.
Ensure Safe Work Procedures and Technical Work Instructions are in place and reflect best practice.
Identify and evaluate new technologies which can aid Exploration tasks/geological interpretation
Provide input into co-ordination of surveys and ensure manpower is available to supervise heritage programmes. Provide input to exploration budgets
Monitor costs for each exploration project in line with tenement reporting.
Skills and Experience
Tertiary qualification in Geosciences or other related discipline
10+ years experience in exploration geology, with minimum 5 years experience in senior leadership role in a large exploration team
Membership of professional of appropriate professional associations such as AusIMM or AI
Comprehensive exposure to Iron Ore advantageous but not mandatory
Extensive experience coordinating exploration activities and management of drilling contractors, site facilities, camps, vehicle fleets and workforce logistics
Strong communication skills both assertive and diplomatic
Strong supervisory, coaching and mentoring skills for the development staff & labour-hire personnel
Ability to nurture growth through training and continuous improvement initiatives
Demonstrated ability in the production of technical writing & reporting
Strong problem solving and judgment skills
Ability to work in a culturally diverse workforce
