Project Lead - Process Safety

About the Role

This role will see you lead in the development and implementation of leading practice process safety and safety risk management systems and processes. The role will also provide specialist support in terms of operational safety management and strategic risk. The work you conduct will be essential to aiding Rio Tinto to developing world class management systems and a zero-harm culture as a path to achieving and sustaining its goal of zero injuries in the workplace.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Leading and enhancing company wide strategy and program for process safety management, including reporting to senior leaders of the status of programmes.

  • Developing collaborative efforts between group functions that play a direct role in process safety management.

  • Supporting the embedding of the HSEQ Management System as the framework for managing process safety risks, including provision of as needed guidance material.

  • Leading process safety technical reviews and coordinating group wide responses to identified gaps.

  • Strengthening the application of quantitative risk and consequence assessment methods, including the group wide programme for evaluation of process safety hazards and occupied buildings.

  • Coordinating the group wide SQRA (semi-quantitative risk assessment) programme for analysis of critical safety risks.

  • Piloting and rolling out a model approach for measuring performance in process safety management.

  • Supporting and enhancing the application of HSE in design for new projects, specifically with regards to hazard analysis.

Skills and Experience

  • A qualification in Science, Engineering, Safety or other related technical field

  • 10+ years of experience related to project and risk management and/or engineering.

  • Ability in working cross-functionally and balance differing stakeholder needs.

  • Experience managing a number of key projects simultaneously and ensure consistent delivery of outcomes on time and within budget

  • Proven ability in writing and reviewing technical publications and presenting complex material to a range of audiences

  • Financial skills to assess business impact/results of initiatives risk evaluation and management
